July 8th to the 13th - (no internet access in wild country)
I have no words to describe this beautiful wild state. We have seen a lot: mostly grand mountain ranges with some snowy peaks, crystal clear glacier rivers and waterfalls, and long and winding trails. Everyone is carrying their bear sprays as they hike, and so are we. We saw a grizzly with binoculars the other day while hiking to Hidden Lake. This is when I kick myself for leaving my zoom lens in Costa Rica!
People are super friendly in Montana, we stayed in Whitefish, and on Saturday, we pampered ourselves… We had a Spa day at the Fire Brand Hotel, and we had a surprisingly great lunch at a sports bar downtown. By the way, highly recommend visiting this town. It’s quaint. It reminds me a little bit of Heavenly in Tahoe.
Luna stayed at doggy daycare for 2 days, so we could hike inside the park. On the 3rd day, we took Luna to MacDonald Lake, so she could enjoy the water. Mike went fishing on his kayak, and Luna swam next to my kayak for about an hour. She has always been quite the sensation when she gets in the water. Everyone points and smiles as she swims next to me.
Every time she smells water (which is every 2 minutes apparently), she starts whining, it has become a bit annoying to the point that we want to get her in the water as soon as possible to get her tired, and then drive!
We are staying for a few days in Wyoming, and we’ll be camping right outside West Yellowstone, in Baker Hole, right on Madison River.
We are in bear territory, there are signs everywhere to not leave trash or food outside. Our site has a bear resistant storage container and we’ll need to carry our bear sprays to our tent!
Just today, we got an email from Peace Corp saying they are delaying our departure again until mid 2022. Which leave us with more time to travel. Hopefully, the situation with COVID in Thailand and everywhere else gets under control soon.
Beautiful! So happy for you! <3
